Home modifications for the mobility impaired and aging in place to improve safety and independence: Home safety assessment consultation Wheelchair ramps Handrail and low-rise steps Widen doorways Lower or remove thresholds Bathroom modifications to include grab bars at the commode and shower, installation of wheelchair accessible showers or easy step in showers or tubs, installation of wheelchair accessible sinks and commodes. Kitchen modifications to include lowered countertops, sinks and work space, replace cabinets to roll-out shelves, installation of wheelchair accessible appliances Wheelchair and stair lifts.

Accessibility modifications such as interior/exterior handrails, door widening, exterior ramps, countertop/cabinet adjustments, accessible kitchen appliances, buzzing/flashing devices, accessible door/faucet handles, elevated toilets, shower grab bars, shower wands, walk-in showers, pedestal sinks, etc. There may be a waiting list for services. Offers activities for seniors including volunteer opportunities, heated swimming pool, exercise room, casino trips, socials, oil painting, wood carving, ceramics, bunco, bridge, Tai Chi, line dancing, Senior Club, Newcomers Club, Ukulele band, computer room, pinochle, canasta, 42, book club, AARP meeting and NARFE meeting. Services include congregate and home delivered meals, an adult day care facility, and thrift store. * Small program called "Serve-A-Senior Community Outreach" is partnering with other organizations to help some seniors with lawn maintenance. Seniors must have either physical or monetary limitations to qualify.

The Housing 4 Texas Heroes grant program is available to veterans & their families, sponsored by TX Veterans Commission Fund for Veteran Assistance (FVA) & the Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG)to help our nation’s heroes in their time of need. Provides home modifications, up to $10,000, to provide mods that are associated with medical needs or conditions for the primary residence of a Veteran.
