A ministry of WMU (Woman's Missionary Union). A 501 (c)(3) Public Charity. Offers a 12-week, full-time, job and life skills training program. City of San Antonio Department of Human Services, Center for Working Families: supportive services, case management and employment referral assistance to families of San Antonio and Bexar County. Family Assistance Center’s main focus is to provide low income families and individuals with the support they need to move toward better jobs and financial self-sufficiency. Through combined federal (Community Services Block Grant), utility (CPS Energy and SAWS), and general fund dollars, the Department of Human Services’ Family Assistance Centers provides help to families in San Antonio and Bexar County that are seeking to meet basic needs, such as utilities and rent, and those aiming for better employment. SERVICES PROVIDED: * Utility Assistance: Project Agua, Plumbers to People, Project REAP, Project WARM (UTILITY ASSISTANCE) * Employment: Job referrals/placement, Job training * Financial Services: Credit report assistance, Open IDA, Assistance to open savings acct. * Other: Volunteer Income Tax assistance (VITA), Rent assistance to families who have received a final eviction notice, Food Stamp Assistance (SNAP) Applicants must meet the priority categories.  Experience Works

Work with low income seniors 55 years of age and older to increase skills to help obtain employment. Seniors train 20 hours a week at minimum wage. Job training, counseling, and community service assignments at non-profit agencies in their communities, prior to transitioning into the workforce. Participants are placed at eligible host agencies for which they are paid minimum wage 20 hours per week.
