Some alternatives to Guardianship are our money management services or referrals to other agencies. Offers will preparation, durable power of attorney, and advanced planning services. ** The Money Management Program provides bill payer and representative payee services to low-income individuals 55 years and older who lack the ability to effectively manage their own financial affairs. Designed to prevent financial abuse, neglect and exploitation of the elderly, the Money Management Program promotes independent living for individuals on a fixed income who have no one else available or appropriate to assist them. Goal is to prevent financial abuse, neglect and exploitation of adults 55 years of age and older. Case management services are provided to all eligible individuals enrolled in the Money Management Program. Case managers meet with clients regularly to: •Assess initial and on-going needs; •Review current expenses and establish a budget; •Provide information on how to effectively manage financial affairs; •Inform them of any benefits, services or insurance they may be entitled to; •Assist them with re-applying for benefits, if needed; •Pair them with a volunteer bill payer or representative payee who will visit them monthly; •Provide referrals to other agencies for additional support services. Through Bill Payer Service, clients are paired with a trained bill payer who provides one-on-one financial management assistance. Bill payers: •Meet with clients once a month to help them sort through mail and organize bills; •Set up a list of monthly income and expenses; •Write checks from a designated account for client’s signature; and •Help balance their checking account.

GreenPath Financial Wellness is a non-profit credit counseling organization that helps people get out of debt. Offer free debt counseling, and help people eliminate credit card debt. Assist with student loan debt, help homeowners avoid foreclosure, provide reverse mortgage counseling to seniors, help people manage their credit score, and provide bankruptcy counseling and education for debtors filing for bankruptcy. Financial education is part of everything we do, and we also offer a wide variety of financial education tools and resources. Offers foreclosure prevention for homeowners who are struggling with their mortgage payment; Home buyer preparation assistance for people who are planning to buy a house. Reverse mortgage counseling for seniors at least 62 years old who are considering a reverse mortgage. Debt Management Plans (DMPs) are negotiated payments with creditors that pay off debts with creditor concessions. Since DMPs actually pay off the debt, instead of having a portion of it charged off or settled, the impact on future credit is more positively treated by potential creditors. DMPs have a maximum term of 60 months to pay off non-secured debts. Each Texas Veteran, dependent or survivor will receive an in-depth analysis of their financial situation and if a DMP is the best solution to their specific needs, the plan is put in place. CCCSSA Certified Consumer Credit Counselors are trained and experienced to help Texas Veterans achieve their financial goals. A grant recipient of the Texas Veterans Commission to provide services statewide for financially stressed Texas Veterans, their dependents and survivors.
