 COIL (Center on Independent Living)

COIL helps Medicaid recipients that are in nursing facilities move to an independent living environment; contracted by HHSC through DADS to provide relocation services. COIL provides services and support systems needed to promote community integration/inclusion and self-sufficiency for individuals with significant physical disabilities. COIL offers training, relocation services, system navigation, problem solving and planning services for families, service providers, and various local and state agencies.

Provides a home and specialized care for survivors of traumatic brain injury and other disabling conditions. Work with individuals with heavy care needs and also help those with cognitive issues (memory, judgment) and behavior issues. We do not allow behaviors that cause physical harm to self or others. Operates a 95-unit housing facility owned by The Salvation Army. Accepts U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) subsidized section 8 to qualified tenants. Seniors age 62 or older or individuals who are disabled according to social security guidelines pay 30% of their income for rent on a monthly basis. An on-site service coordinator provides case management services.
