Assist in planning and developing programs specially designed for citizens 60 years of age and older and their spouses.

Provides information and referral regarding access design and related law. Serves as technical advisor and team member with all city departments, other government units and individuals in changing and removing physical and procedural barriers impeding disabled citizens access, particularly to city government operated services, programs and facilities.

The Epilepsy Foundation Central and South Texas (EFCST) serves the needs of those affected by epilepsy. Programs and services include comprehensive epilepsy clinics; case management; medication assistance; mental health counseling; advocacy; information and referral; community education; summer camps; youth transition programs; art therapy; brokering for social services; job preparation; support groups and health and fitness programs.

1) In Home Personal Care: Helps seniors and adults with disabilities remain independent at home and avoid untimely institutionalization. Targets disabled persons ages 18-59, or seniors aged 60 and older, who neither qualify for public assistance nor can afford private care. Up to 10 hrs. a week of in-home service for personal care and home assistance, including: Information and Referral, Meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, errands, assistance with the daily activities associated with living at home such as bathing, dressing and grooming. 2) Care Planning: Elder Care Resource and Referral Service provides consultation and referral for seniors and their families who need a caring voice on the other end of the telephone to assist in seeking out supportive resources on elder care and aging issues. Our consultants are compassionate and have the time to listen to the specifics associated with your special situation, and are knowledgeable about resources to help you. Follow up contact is scheduled, if needed, and additional resources are researched and mailed to the home of the client as requested. The Family Service Resource and Referral consultants assist seniors and/or their families in understanding questions, answers, options, support alternatives, and provide important connections with a wide array of services through Family Service programs and/or other community resources. Family Service provides an array of supportive services to help meet the needs of seniors in the community to remain independent for as long as possible. Sometimes just having someone to talk to who is supportive and who understands what questions to ask-- is what seniors appreciate the most, while seeking resources to meet the care needs and concerns at home.

Provides education on leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkins disease, & myeloma. Provides support services for patients & their families through patient based programs such as First Connection, Patient Aid, Family Support Groups, & free educational materials and seminars.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the Lewy body dementias (LBD), supporting patients, their families and caregivers, and promoting scientific advances. The Associations purposes are charitable, educational, and scientific. Through outreach, education and research, we support those affected by Lewy body dementias. For caregivers who do not have Internet access or who wish to speak to someone, the toll-free helpline provides a link to experienced LBD caregivers who can provide information on LBD and who can also share their personal experience and compassion. Lupus is a serious and chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and tissue damage to virtually every organ system in the body. It can affect many parts, including the skin, joints, blood, and blood vessels, heart, lungs, kidneys and brain. Lupus is hard to diagnose, difficult to manage, incurable and potentially fatal. Our mission is to improve the diagnosis and treatment of lupus, support individuals and families affected by the disease, increase awareness of lupus among health professionals and the public, and find the causes and cure.

A United Way sponsored agency that provides multiple essential services to low income families within its service area. Services include early childhood education. social services and activities and meals for seniors.

Self-help, support & advocacy organization of consumers, families, caregivers, & friends of people with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, schizo-affective, bipolar disorder, major depression, obsessive-compulsive/anxiety disorders, pervasive developmental disorders, attention deficit disorders, severe & persistent mental illnesses, that affect the brain. Works to promote equitable services & treatment for consumers & families living with mental illnesses. Variety of programs. Support groups; compiles lists of both licensed & unlicensed housing and of many locally available support groups. Maintains a book and video library on mental health issues.

The National Hemophilia Foundation is dedicated to finding better treatments and cures for bleeding and clotting disorders and to preventing the complications of these disorders through education, advocacy and research. The HANDI Information Resource Center provides answers to consumers questions, provides quality educational publications, and makes referrals to additional sources of assistance.

Funds are available to help with the cost of professional counseling for individuals, couples or families. Financial guidelines must be met.

The National Resource Directory (www.nrd.gov) is a web site for wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans, their families and families of the fallen, and those who support them. The Directory provides over ten thousand services and resources available through governmental and non-governmental organizations to support recovery, rehabilitation and reintegration into the community. National Stroke Association's mission is to reduce the incidence & impact of stroke by developing compelling education & programs focused on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation & support for all impacted by stroke. Website has a support group registry, where one can search for a group nearest to home. A large section of the website is devoted to CAREGIVERS, with much valuable information, including downloadable books, support groups, webinars and videos.

SAILS has an Advocacy Program that provides information and assistance for people with disabilities and their families in accessing support systems and promoting changes that enhance full access to the community. Provides education on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and information about disability rights. SAILS has support groups that offer opportunities to interact and share information with peers through four support groups: People with Disabilities; Family Members of People with Disabilities; Young People with Disabilities; and Alliance for the Mentally ill. All meetings are held at SAILS. SAILS provides individualized Social Security benefits planning. Provides opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in various community activities. SAILS provides transition assistance from nursing facilities to the community. Provides information, assistance and training for adaptive telecommunication devices. Provides assistance to persons who are deaf/hard of hearing and deaf & blind. The SAILS Gateways to Abilities Program fills the gaps in the safety net for persons with permanent disabilities waiting benefits. Must be pending Social Security Disability benefits; reside within the City of San Antonio limits; and have no income to qualify. * Also a selected site for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) sponsored by the City of San Antonio.
