 Family Service Association- In-Home Personal Care + Elder Care Resource & Referral

1) In Home Personal Care: Helps seniors and adults with disabilities remain independent at home and avoid untimely institutionalization. Targets disabled persons ages 18-59, or seniors aged 60 and older, who neither qualify for public assistance nor can afford private care. Up to 10 hrs. a week of in-home service for personal care and home assistance, including: Information and Referral, Meal planning and preparation, light housekeeping, errands, assistance with the daily activities associated with living at home such as bathing, dressing and grooming. 2) Care Planning: Elder Care Resource and Referral Service provides consultation and referral for seniors and their families who need a caring voice on the other end of the telephone to assist in seeking out supportive resources on elder care and aging issues. Our consultants are compassionate and have the time to listen to the specifics associated with your special situation, and are knowledgeable about resources to help you. Follow up contact is scheduled, if needed, and additional resources are researched and mailed to the home of the client as requested. The Family Service Resource and Referral consultants assist seniors and/or their families in understanding questions, answers, options, support alternatives, and provide important connections with a wide array of services through Family Service programs and/or other community resources. Family Service provides an array of supportive services to help meet the needs of seniors in the community to remain independent for as long as possible. Sometimes just having someone to talk to who is supportive and who understands what questions to ask-- is what seniors appreciate the most, while seeking resources to meet the care needs and concerns at home.

 Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to raising awareness of the Lewy body dementias (LBD), supporting patients, their families and caregivers, and promoting scientific advances. The Associations purposes are charitable, educational, and scientific. Through outreach, education and research, we support those affected by Lewy body dementias. For caregivers who do not have Internet access or who wish to speak to someone, the toll-free helpline provides a link to experienced LBD caregivers who can provide information on LBD and who can also share their personal experience and compassion. Please leave a message and an LBDA volunteer will return your call within 24-48 hours. SAILS has an Advocacy Program that provides information and assistance for people with disabilities and their families in accessing support systems and promoting changes that enhance full access to the community. Provides education on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and information about disability rights. SAILS has support groups that offer opportunities to interact and share information with peers through four support groups: People with Disabilities; Family Members of People with Disabilities; Young People with Disabilities; and Alliance for the Mentally ill. All meetings are held at SAILS. SAILS provides individualized Social Security benefits planning. Provides opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in various community activities. SAILS provides transition assistance from nursing facilities to the community. Provides information, assistance and training for adaptive telecommunication devices. Provides assistance to persons who are deaf/hard of hearing and deaf & blind. The SAILS Gateways to Abilities Program fills the gaps in the safety net for persons with permanent disabilities waiting benefits. Must be pending Social Security Disability benefits; reside within the City of San Antonio limits; and have no income to qualify. * Also a selected site for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) sponsored by the City of San Antonio.
