 Bexar Area Agency on Aging

Assists persons 60 years of age and older, especially those who are frail, living alone, low income to get the support they need to live independently in their own homes. Free services funded by the Older Americans Act and TX Dept. of Aging and Disability Services (DADS). ADRC (Alamo Service Connection, provides information, referral and assistance for both seniors and persons with disabilities.) Divisions: Benefits Counseling: provides assistance to seniors 60 years of age and older and Medicare beneficiaries of any age concerning their public benefits and entitlements; Care Coordination: assesses the needs of seniors and coordinates local resources to support an individual’s highest level of functioning; Caregiver Support: assesses needs of caregivers and coordinates available support services; Ombudsman: advocates for residents of long-term care facilities; Nutrition: serves nourishing meals on site and/or delivered to home-bound seniors; Senior Centers: local neighborhood facilities providing support services and recreational and group activities for seniors.

 Corazon Ministries (Travis Park United Methodist Church)

Corazon assists the marginalized and homeless populations through a variety of programs. * Wednesday Nights - Healing Service, Prayer Picnic, and Prayer Circle. Each Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Corazon opens its doors for Gospel and a hearty meal. * Sunday Mornings: Café Corazon - Every Sunday morning 8am-10am, a team of volunteers provides a meal, fellowship and spiritual guidance. Showers, hygiene kits and clothes closet are available on Sunday mornings. * Donations of clean, machine-washable clothing for adults are always needed to stock the clothes closet. * Medical Clinic - Medical professionals donate their time on Sunday mornings to provide free checkups and medical care. * Volunteers - Corazon relies on volunteers to serve in its programs every week. * Deborah's House is a transitional housing program for women in transition from a substance abuse or emotional trauma recovery program.

 House of Neighborly Service

Provides food to individuals and families in crisis. ** Food Service: serves approximately 110 families and individuals every Tuesday morning. Vouchers for food are distributed at 8:00 a.m., information intake is at 10:00 a.m. Contents may vary but a typical box contains: vegetables, fruits, beans, rice, dairy products, and bread. ** Senior Lunch: Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Seniors over the age of 60 eat free. ** Project HOPE: First Wednesday of Month. HNS offers a food program for people 60 and older. People receiving TANF/AFDC, Food Stamps, Medicaid, or SSI may still qualify. If interested please bring proof of income, age, and residence. ** Commodity Supplemental Food Program: Last Wednesday of month for people 60 and older.

 Rainbow Senior Center (RSC) / KENDALL

Offers Nutritional Programs, which include both on-site congregate lunch program and Meals-on-Wheels Program. Also offers a Transportation Program, which provides area transportation to the senior center members who are no longer able to drive. * Rainbow Senior Center has 2 vans dedicated to bringing seniors to & from the center. Rides are $1.50 each way and need to be scheduled at least a day before they are needed. Transportation is also used when available to help those take trips to the grocery store, doctor apointments, pick up prescriptions. Activity programs offer members the opportunity for daily social inter-action with peers in a safe, friendly setting.
