 American Legion - Family Support Network

The American Legion’s Family Support Network is ready to provide immediate assistance to service personnel and families whose lives have been directly affected by Operation Iraqi Freedom and America’s war on terror. The request is received at the toll-free number: 1-800-504-4098 The name, address and telephone number of the caller, as well as the reason for the call, are collected. The call is referred to the department. The department refers the call to a local post. The local post contacts the family and provides the assistance, if resources are available, or refers the family to other local agencies. In case of financial need, the post provides the necessary funds or assists the family in applying for Temporary Financial Assistance, if minor children are in the home

 Blessed Angels Community Center

Community Outreach Organization whose goal is to provide supplemental food assistance of fresh vegetables and healthy nutritious grocery products to those in need. Collaborative partners are the San Antonio Food Bank, Alamo United Methodist Church and the National Veterans Outreach Program of the American GI Forum. Agency partners with the San Antonio Food Bank. Food distributed to Seniors the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Food for Veterans and Needy Families distributed by appointment. Provide clothing and other items to struggling individuals and their families as they become available.

 Provisions Outreach, the Bulverde Food Pantry

Provide food, household necessities, clothing, & service referrals to residents who live within the four zip codes that surround Bulverde– 78163, 78070, 78258, and 78260. Also provides groceries & goods one time to individuals or families who live outside of our service area, as well as provide information and referrals to direct them to appropriate service providers in their residential area. No one in need is ever turned away empty handed.

Offers crisis intervention and assistance with personal and family problems requiring profession direction. Provides emergency assistance with food, clothing and medication, and emergency utility assistance for those in specified areas of town (Southside; see zip code list.  Family Life Center- New Braunfels

Many programs to provide help for families that have had an unforeseen emergency. Other programs offer support that makes families more stable and self-sufficient. 1) Rent assistance, mortgage or utility payments. This is one time help that enables the family to survive a crisis. 2) Clothes Closet for families in the New Braunfels area in need of good used clothing and household goods. Service is by appointment and the clothes are free. Call for an appointment at 830-625-7100. 3) Food Pantry (by appointment) Donations and volunteers welcome.

Implements a case management program to work with families on an ongoing basis to help them identify the root causes of their food insecurity and to help them develop a proactive plan to become more self-sufficient. SA Hope's model is based on providing a hand-up, rather than a hand-out. SA Hope works with a number of local nonprofit agencies to provide a variety of life skill and prevention-based programs to strengthen the family.
