 American Legion - Family Support Network

The American Legion’s Family Support Network is ready to provide immediate assistance to service personnel and families whose lives have been directly affected by Operation Iraqi Freedom and America’s war on terror. The request is received at the toll-free number: 1-800-504-4098 The name, address and telephone number of the caller, as well as the reason for the call, are collected. The call is referred to the department. The department refers the call to a local post. The local post contacts the family and provides the assistance, if resources are available, or refers the family to other local agencies. In case of financial need, the post provides the necessary funds or assists the family in applying for Temporary Financial Assistance, if minor children are in the home

In partnership with Comal County Senior Center, provides Meals on Wheels (Home Delivered Meals.) Vouchers and aid including medications, emergency financial assistance for bills, and food pantry. Guadalupe and surrounding rural counties through food distribution, assistance programs, education and advocacy. Serves in Guadalupe and surrounding rural counties. Assistance Requirements 1) Obtain a referral note or card from one of the local community service organizations listed below in the "Referral Directory". Assistance in locating employment.

 Salvation Army / Metropolitan Area Command

Provides clothing vouchers, emergency food assistance, rent and utility assistance. Also Emergency & Disaster Services. Only the final $100 of the bill will be paid. If bill is over $100, client will be required to complete the co-payment before a check will be processed. Will be required to come in to complete consent form for CPS. Only take 8 to 10 appointments a week.

 SA Hope Center

Implements a case management program to work with families on an ongoing basis to help them identify the root causes of their food insecurity and to help them develop a proactive plan to become more self-sufficient. SA Hope's model is based on providing a hand-up, rather than a hand-out. SA Hope works with a number of local nonprofit agencies to provide a variety of life skill and prevention-based programs to strengthen the family. Emergency Food and Clothing, Case Management Monday thru Friday 9 am - 5 pm and Saturday 9 am - 2 pm.
