The Attorney General for the state of Texas protects consumers and the legitimate business community by filing civil lawsuits under the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and other consumer protection statutes. Website contains much useful information on consumer issues such as mortgage fraud, home mortgage and foreclosure crisis, debt management, door-to-door sales, frauds and scams, Medicaid fraud, price gouging, telemarketers, senior alerts, rights of the elderly, and much more. Complaints may be filed online. When filing a complaint, please provide copies of receipts or contracts, if available. The complaint will still be taken if there are no documents. GreenPath Financial Wellness is a non-profit credit counseling organization that helps people get out of debt. Offer free debt counseling, and help people eliminate credit card debt. Assist with student loan debt, help homeowners avoid foreclosure, provide reverse mortgage counseling to seniors, help people manage their credit score, and provide bankruptcy counseling and education for debtors filing for bankruptcy. Financial education is part of everything we do, and we also offer a wide variety of financial education tools and resources. Offers foreclosure prevention for homeowners who are struggling with their mortgage payment; Home buyer preparation assistance for people who are planning to buy a house. Reverse mortgage counseling for seniors at least 62 years old who are considering a reverse mortgage.
