 Airlift Hope

Airlift Hope is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization utilizing over 150 volunteer pilots to transport patients to specialized medical care. They are a coordinating service matching volunteer pilots willing to donate their time and aircraft to the individuals in need. All Airlift Hope Pilots are licensed by the FAA and are instrument rated. They are dedicated volunteers who donate their time, skills, plane, and fuel to provide free medical air transportation for those in need. Accept requests from anyone directly involved in the need (doctors, nurses, patients, social workers, transportation coordinators, family members, etc.). A minimum of five business days are required to coordinate flight.

 Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG)

Provides technical assistance to member governments in their planning functions, preparation of applications, and administration of area-wide programs. Program specific technical assistance for regional planning in: aging services, economic development, 9-1-1 systems, homeland security, criminal justice, resource recovery, air quality, transportation, weatherization, and workforce. Administers the Alamo Local Authority for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Sponsors special projects in response to local government needs or requests. Support for these activities is provided through local dues, state appropriations, state and federal grants that are matched by local monies, and other public and private funds.

 Bexar Area Agency on Aging

Assists persons 60 years of age and older, especially those who are frail, living alone, low income to get the support they need to live independently in their own homes. Free services funded by the Older Americans Act and TX Dept. of Aging and Disability Services (DADS). ADRC (Alamo Service Connection, provides information, referral and assistance for both seniors and persons with disabilities.) Divisions: Benefits Counseling: provides assistance to seniors 60 years of age and older and Medicare beneficiaries of any age concerning their public benefits and entitlements; Care Coordination: assesses the needs of seniors and coordinates local resources to support an individual’s highest level of functioning; Caregiver Support: assesses needs of caregivers and coordinates available support services; Ombudsman: advocates for residents of long-term care facilities; Nutrition: serves nourishing meals on site and/or delivered to home-bound seniors; Senior Centers: local neighborhood facilities providing support services and recreational and group activities for seniors.

Good Days offers patients and families financial help, emotional support, and guidance to the best available information and support for each specific disease state.  Northeast Senior Assistance (NESA)

Northeast Senior Assistance (NESA) volunteers provide transportation for seniors, age 60 & above, in private autos for medical, dental, or vision appointments. Three weeks prior notice required. Cannot do wheelchairs. Telephone reassurance is also available. Offers grocery shopping service for clients. This is the only errand running or shopping assistance offered by NESA. A volunteer is assigned 1 or 2 clients to contact on a weekly basis & take the grocery order. The volunteer picks up & delivers the groceries to the clients home. Clients are responsible for payment of groceries. There is no charge for the delivery.

 Presa Community Center / Transportation

Presa Community Center provides transportation services for those who are unable to drive or use public transportation. Elderly & persons with disabilities can use this service to make doctors appointments or shop for their weekly groceries. Registration is required to participate. Serves all of San Antonio & Bexar County. ADA Accessible vehicles. Transportation fee $5 one-way, $10 RT. Reservations should be booked at least two weeks in advance, or as soon as patients have the date & time of their next doctor’s appointment, as the program is in great demand & fills up quickly.

 VIA Metropolitan Transit / VIATrans Accessible Services

Provides transportation for mobility-impaired persons who are unable to use regular VIA bus service as a result of their disability. Must meet eligibility criteria to be certified for the service. ** VIAtrans now also has a Taxi Subsidy Service for people with disabilities who cannot use the regular bus service. Subsidy covers up to $9.00 of a Yellow Cab taxi trip taken by a registered VIAtrans customer on a weekday. See that record for more information.
